Classic Miranda, 2007: First, there was outrage over an unremarkable plan to ask new Catholic school principals and religion teachers to make “the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity as an expression of their dedication to Catholic teaching”. This “goal” takes up three lines of a 31-page draft plan distributed to parishes for comment and posted on the Sydney Archdiocese website for a month. But it raised the ire of dissident Catholics at online magazine Catholica, which ludicrously beat up the issue as “Orwellian-style tactics borrowed from the totalitarian states of yesteryear”.
